Here, I will be analysing the vocal techniques used by various groups and singers from Korea/Western Countries. Some information was taken from this Kpop analysis website and is accompanied by my own thoughts!

Red Velvet
Members​: Irene, Wendy, Joy, Seulgi, Yeri

For Red Velvet, I will be looking more into their main/lead vocalists Seulgi, Wendy and Joy.

Seulgi: ​​

Ease even in her lower register

Nasal tonality (Most of the sound produced in the nose to mouth area)

Prefers using falsetto rather than 'real' head voice

Does not project and resonate her words strongly in her middle/mixed register

Uses chest voice for her higher register

Exo as of 2018 has 9 members: Suho, Xiumin, Lay, Chen, Kai, Baekhyun, D.O, Sehun and Chanyeol

For this analysis I will be looking at the lead and main singers: D.O, Chen and Baekhyun.

Chen:
- Tenor
- Good resonance in his mixed register
- Airiness can be heard when he hits his upper register, thought it is generally still well supported
- Good projection in lower register

Good control of his voice and well resonated words

Able to enter into Falsetto easily

Good at singing low notes (Strongest in singing in the lowest register)

Good at belting

Baekhyun:

Often uses a relaxed falsetto

Intonation and resonance not as strong as the other two members

Most extensive range of the three

BTS
BTS consists of 7 members: RM, Jin, Suga, Jhope, Jimin, V and Jungkook
​
For this analysis I will be looking at the vocal line of the group: Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook
​
Jin:
- Tenor
- Softer voice as compared to other members
- Not much projection and resonance of words
- Airy quality to his voice especially in the higher register
- Good lower register that is well supported
​
Jimin:

Tenor/ Countertenor

Extensive head voice

Very nasal singer

Could improve in terms of breath support

Strongest in his upper register
​
V:
-
Baritone
-
Airiness in his voice when he sings

Use of head voice instead of chest voice most of the time

Good breath support

Good transitions into Falsetto

Jungkook:

Tenor

Often goes into Falsetto even in his mixed register

Most comfortable in his Falsetto but it lacks support when he goes into his upper register

Good support of voice in mixed register

Breathiness and airy quality to his voice
